Some of my earliest memories include watching my father process film in the university photo lab. Under the dim red glow of a darkroom lamp, he gently lowered exposed film into a chemical bath. Moments quietly passed, then an image began to take shape on the blank page.
To my little toddler eyes, It felt like magic. If I’m honest, it still does.
Though photography has lost some of the alchemy it once had, there’s still something mystical about pushing the button on a little black box and watching an image appear.
Now, with no red glow and no pool of mysterious liquid, the magic comes from expanding the image from that little black box into a work of art and watching faces light up when they see it.
So, do you want to see a magic trick?
